After my Veteran(Larry) and I had left the Korean War memorial area and we were looking out over the reflecting pond in front of the steps to the Lincoln Memorial, a young boy around 9 years old came up to him and asked if he could shake his hand and say thank you. He explained that he had seen the shirt Larry was wearing and asked his parents what Honor Flight was. After they explained it to him he wanted to meet Larry. So this boy and Larry chatted for a few minutes while a couple of very proud looking parents looked on. There is no way the smile on anyone’s face could have been larger.
This is just one of the spontaneous events and lifelong memories that were formed this day.
Great story! Thanks for sharing, Alan!
