Wow. WWII, Korea, and Vietnam? And retired as a Sergeant Major to boot. Were you in Vietnam at the same time?

No, my Dad was Division Sergeant Major, of the 1st Infantry Division, in 1965. He went over with the Division in Feb of '65. I was a snot nosed high school kid at that time, and didn't make it to the party until 1969. However, my Brother-in-law was also with the 1st ID at that time. He and my Dad were in country, and with the same unit, at then. My Bro-in-law was on his second tour in 1969, when I got there. He and I were in country together, but because he was Army down south by the delta, and I was a Marine in I Corps, we never came in contact.

When my Dad made SgtMaj, he was the youngest in the Army at that time. My Brother-in-law also retired as a SgtMaj. We're an Army family. I was the black sheep Marine :o)

WOW!

May God grand your dad eternal peace we pray.

I had once uncle, Herman G Marcial who saw service in World War II and Korea.

I will echo Claudia, were you both in Vietnam at the same time?

Thanks, Ricardo. As you can see in my reply to Claudia, my Dad and I were not in country together.

My Dad was a Grunt for his entire career. He was an Airborne Ranger with the 82cd Airborne. Saw his first action on June 6, 1944. He was also with the 82cd Airborne in Korea, and was there for the duration of the conflict. He really missed Airborne, but injuries from combat and training made it impossible for him. Even so, he was still Infantry when he went to Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division. He retired when he got back.
