Hello shipmates. Just thought I would drop you all a line to let you know that I rcvd from the CRSC (Combat Related Service Compensation) board set by the Department of the Navy, Secretary of the Navy Council of Review Boards stated considerd my request Combat Related Service Compensation for my tour in Viet Nam after I have all ready been awarded 30% from the VA and more to come any how, the board approved by request and granted me 30% and I could request for more after I am finished with the VA.

Any of you guys was in Viet Nam and was around when the Agent Orange was released or in the area of DaNang make your sure you go and see your VA.I will help out with anything I can help you with.

Hello Bob Peters: Glad their is another YN on this site. Looks like you went up the ladder pretty fast in early 50's I was lucky to get where I ended up or dumb. Of course working in the legal field you are completly away from the regular YN work. I just wanted to say welcome aboard and welcome to our site.

This picture taken aboard the USS CHARLES R. WARE DD865 which I served on from Jan 1950 until Jan 1953. Reached the rate of YN2. Will be attending my first ship reunion in Pittsburgh, Pa.which is my hometown. Presently living in Grove City, Ohio just south of Columbus. I posted several discussions on web site in the past. Looking forward to keeping in touch with all off you as fellow shipmates.

My favorite was when reseiving a newby right out of Boot Camp or "A" school, was to send him around to all the shops looking for 10 ft. of Flight Line. Of course they wouldn't have it and would send him somewhere else! Just one of those rights of passage!

Well never had to look for charlie nobel, but when first reported aboard USS FIFE DD991 as PNSN my LPO sent me all around the ship asking all the departments for a can of relative bearing grease!!!!!!...what a fool I was after running around finding out there isnt such an item when got to supply Chief!!!!!!...then first time getting underway LPO sent me to ship's office supply locker to tie down everything with 50ft of chow line!!!!!..looking back now yrs later how stupid I was!!!!!was all in fun though in the 80,s

Jack, I had an old Sr Chief ( he was probably all of 40) who use to tell us to look for Charlie Nobel when he wanted us to do a major cleaning. Never asked him what it was all about just did what we were told. I found out years later that it has to do with the days of old wooden ship and the galley. Thanks for reminding me of this.....I may use it with my current employees.

Yes Pamela it was interesting. Banana rats all over, Castro running his tanks all night but we sure enjoyed the "ONE EYE INDIAN" beer. After a few of them you swore you seen that ONE EYE INDIAN. Our uniform was white hat, white T-shirts and tropical shorts.Real nice uniform.

As Max said, it is a small world. Jack, it must have been very interesting to have served in Cuba!
