I served in the USAF as a Combat Communications Radio Operator. I worked Air/Ground in the States. Was attached to 22nd TASS in Vietnam. Took a field assignment to 5th Army Special Forces Camp B-42 outside of Chau Doc in the Mekong Delta. I worked a Network of Radio Stations called Millers Brute and with a FAC directed Air Strikes near and on the Cambodia Border. Life in a SF Camp is unlike any Air Base anywhere. For the first two to three months I was given intensive Combat and Weapons training. Our Camp was only some 40 strong and I had to be able to shoot any and every weapon they had. I was also included in S&D Patrols. When you live Special Forces you are expected to be Special Forces. Mu call sign was "Millers Brute-70" and my FAC was Bart-49. Through this site I have met and communicated with his Daughter, Teresa. We have cleared up a lot of questions we had.

Before 'Nam I was at Loring AFB Caribou Maine, with a 6 week TDY at Thule, Greenland. After 'Nam I was stationed at Maxwell AFB Montgomery Ala.

A long time ago, in a land far, far away, I had the distinct privilege of serving our country in the United States Air Force. I was a loadmaster on C-130's flying A, B, and E models. What a marvelous aircraft! I have been involved in flying since high school working for crop dusters in Florida. When I returned from Vietnam I became an instructor in Columbus, OH in 1968 and 1969.

Welcome, Thomas. I was in pilot training in Columbus, MS. when Camille hit. We drove down to the Keesler area the following week. My goodness! What destruction! My mother and father retired to Alamogordo, so I have visited Holloman numerous times. You wouldn't recognize the base now. Thanks for your service and for contributing to the website.

I served in the Air Force from 30 June1969 to 17 September 1977. Tech School in Radio Ops at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Got there from basic about 3 days before Hurricane Camille, my one and only hurricane. Then went to Altus AFB, Oklahoma for assignment to the 4th Mobile Communications Group. October 1971 saw me go to Vietnam. When I returned on Halloween 1972, I was assigned to Holloman AFB, NM as a Computer Programmer. Finished my time there at Holloman.

Thanks for starting this, Ron.  I was only in the Air National Guard for about a year and a half, but have tremendous respect for all those who wear blue.  I loved personnel school at Keesler AFB, and was proud to get a 100% on every test. Keesler is also nostalgic for me because my sister lived in Gulfport/Biloxi for years, and my husband actually proposed to me there on a visit during my schooling!  The people I served with at the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, Ohio were fantastic.
