If you served in the military, you can probably come with at least a couple dozen interesting, funny or memorable little stories and experiences.

Here are some suggestions of what you might share in these categories:

Boot Camp- Who doesn't remember their drill sergeants, drill instructors, or technical instructors???  They were mean, often times funny, and they always taught you something whether you liked it at the time or not. Do you have a story about one (or two)? What types of things did you do in training?  Were you particularly good or bad at something?  Was there something funny, unique or memorable about the food, weather, your fellow platoon mates or where you trained?

Recruitment or Being Drafted- If you served in the military, you had to enlist somehow.  Were you drafted?  If so, is there a unique way or situation in which it happened?  Did you sign up for patriotism, because your best friend or brother did, or some other reason?  Did the recruiters tell you the truth, or did they stretch it a bit to get you to sign up?  Do have memories of your enlistment physical or the paperwork?

Leaving Home/Deploying- When I see these on T.V., I get teary-eyed.  You had to leave for training or maybe you went overseas or to a far-away duty station.  Who did you leave behind?  How did they feel about you leaving?  What was it like when you left?  Was there any type of formal send-off?  What about your trip aboard a bus/plane/train?  How was it memorable (good or bad)?

All in a Day's Work- What was your daily job in the military (your M.O.S., A.F.S.C., etc.)?  Did you like it (or not like it) for a particular reason?  Was this job your first choice? What are your strongest memories of it?  Did you ever have to do a detail or "special duty" you particularly liked or hated? Were there particular people  or supervisors you worked with who you liked or disliked for some reason? (please be careful of mentioning names)

The Homefront- Military spouses or family , this one's for you. (although military members can also share)  How did you (do you) feel about your loved one leaving?  How did you cope while they were gone?  Were you a Rosie the Riveter? What was your contact like with them like while they were gone?  Did you V-mail or e-mail each other?  Did you get married right before (or maybe immediately after) they left?

Combat stories-

Because younger eyes may be reading your stories, please be mindful of how graphic you describe your experiences. What do you remember about your combat experiences? What was your unit's mission? How were you part of the whole war effort? Were there any lighthearted moments? Did you or someone you know commit great acts of bravery you could share? What was the scariest, funniest, most memorable thing about your combat experiences?

Buddies and Friends- Again, if you served in the military you probably made outstanding friends.  Tell us about them!  Where were they from?  What did you do together that was memorable?  What qualities did your friend(s) have that made them so special?  Do you still have contact with them? If you attend military reunions, tell us about them.

Funny, Unique, Bizarre- I made this a separate category, although if your story fits best in another one you are welcome to post it there.  These are the little moments and experiences that made you laugh instead of cry.  Or the ones that will make us readers say, "You've got to be kidding me!"  Did you experience something funny, bizarre or unique during your service?  I am sure you did.  Please share!

Homecoming Yes, I definitely cry every time I see these on T.V..  There is nothing like it in the world if you are part of one, especially if you are the one who was gone. Some of you may have had no homecoming at all, or worse yet, a negative experience.  Tell us about what happened to you, if there was any type of celebration, who was there, how you felt to be home, what you did  upon your return, etc.

Miscellaneous-  Do none of the above categories fit your story?  Post it in this category.  If I see enough people post on a similar topic, I'll add a new category.
