Christmas of 1966 was the best Christmas while I was in the Navy. I was in VA-75 an A6A squadron on board the USS Independance in the Med. I had orders to shore duty at VA-42 at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach. I was just waiting to be tranferred. In early Dec. we pulled into Naples Italy and I had my orders. So when the carrier pulled out, I stayed in Naples for a week! Then they flew us to Cannes France where we spent another 4 days. While there, the Indy pulled in and more people from the ship…See More

I had originally been scheduled for quadruple bypass the first week of Sep.But then they changed it because my surgeon was going to be in London the week of the 11th. So we rescheduled it for Oct. Then 9/11 happened and he couldn't fly anywhere so they tried to schedule me back in, but I had already made other plans, so we kept it for Oct. I was a gunners mate on board the USS MONTROSE APA 212 AND THE USS THOMASTON LSD 28 1966 TO 1970 three trips to Vietnam 67,68,69,70.Then I was in the Air National guard 1973 to 1975.Joined the army national guard in1979 and retired in 1991.
