Lest We Forget

Last week I was in Washington, D.C. with eighty eighth grade students.  I have been to the nation's capitol about 25 times now, but I still get a lump in my throat when I see things like the Marines Corps Memorial, the World War II Memorial,the nineteen statues of the Korean War Memorial and of course the Vietnam Wall.  What is the best for me though is seeing thirteen…

Happy Armed Forces Day!

Sixty three years ago, President Harry Truman proclaimed the following:



"Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 1950, marks the first combined demonstration by America's defense team of its progress, under the National Security Act, towards the goal of readiness for any eventuality. It is the first parade of preparedness by the unified forces of our land, sea, and air defense."

Thank you, World War II veterans

Yesterday marked the 68th anniversary of VE Day. Millions in the United States and Europe celebrated the hard-fought end of fighting in Europe.



I have such respect for all veterans, but our oldest and greatest generation of them tugs at my heart strings just a little more.



VE Day brought millions of our men and women home to work on the farm, start businesses and later gave America the booming and idealic time in the 1950s. Sadly, over 400,000 Americans never returned… Continue

Ate up like a soup sandwich

Hey all,



Some of know that I teach seventh and eighth graders. It sure is interesting this time of year! Just a wee bit busy and stressful. Once the weather turned here in Ohio in the last two weeks, everyone's mood is different. I personally love, love, love the spring weather and all the additional daylight.
