The idea for this website started long ago.  As you will read, my military service began in 1993.  Ever since then I have been fascinated by the all the little stories out there of military experience. 

When I started teaching, I was immediately drawn to things like setting up the Veterans Day program at school and inviting veterans in to speak. I wanted my students to feel a little bit of the fascination I did, and have them honor veterans and their sacrifices for our country.

In 2002 I helped form a n0n-profit organization to collect veterans' stories for our county and record them.  We started with World War II veterans and had 213 veterans' memories recorded.  Two years later we did the Korean War veterans and had 153.  I loved reading those memories.  The funny little stories, the bizarre tales of military life, and harrowing tales of combat.  I'll talk more about those two projects in another post, but suffice to say they were the real catalyst for this website.  I wanted there to be no boundaries as to where stories could come from, and let everyone who has a computer have access to them.

This is a place for anyone who has ever served in the military, whether you were Active Duty or Reserves, served stateside or overseas, or were a private or a general, to share your memories and comment on others.
