YOUR Military Story- Did your family or friends enlist into the military at the same time you did?

Note: This is part of series to help ALL who served and their families to reminisce, remember and record memories and stories of your military service. Be sure to check out all the other posts and comment in the white space below each post!

At the small school district where I work, you will hear what likely has happened in every school district in every town for decades- someone decides to join the military and their friends, cousins or classmates decide that isn't such a bad idea.

Three nice young ladies I had in class did just this last year. They joined the Army National Guard together.

I know this is common practice. So....

Did you or someone you know enlist at the same time as a family member or friend? Tell us about it.

HI Geoff,

I am sorry about your friends.  I will honor them this next week when I am in Washington with my 8th grade students.  What panel are they on?

That is awesome that you and Vinny still stay in touch.

In the span of 12 months 8 of us that went to school and hung together, all joined the Service. All ended up going to Vietnam. Sadly only 2 of us came Home alive. My buddy Vinny and I have been Friends for over 50 years, and we still see each other 2 or 3 times a year. We raise a glass to our 6 Brothers who we Remember every day!

3 buddies and I enlisted in January to enter on a delay program after high school graduation. These were 3 of my best buds thru middle school and high school. Two of us had Fathers who were sailors. We kind of talked the other Two in to joining. All four went different directions upon graduation from boot camp. Two to the East coast. Two to the West coast. One never saw a ship. The others were all sea going sailors. It was a great experience, I think, for all of us.
