YOUR MILITARY STORY-Do you have memories of your enlistment physical or in processing?

Ahh a military physical. I remember at the MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) having to duck walk in front of a group of fellow enlistees while in our underclothes. This was the first of many times in the military where my privacy was well, gone,

I almost didn't swear in the day of my physical. They said my left ear had too much wax! They put me in a taxi then to a doctor's office to flush it out. A kid trying to enlist into the Marines that same day but was sent home for an ingrown toenail.

The paperwork they had us fill out was tedious, and they were very specific as to how they wanted it filled out. Put your first name first instead of your last name first? Whoops, expect a scene on your behalf. This was my first exposure to angry and yelling NCOs. You could see all the newbies like me tense up as we all knew this was a very mild preview of what was to come.

So, what are your memories of your enlistment physical and military in-processing?

Nothing spectacular at in-processing; but arrival at boot camp at Parris Island was something else. NOBODY arrives in So. Carolina until after midnight and way before 0400 hrs. I went through it and my oldest son confirmed it. They try to break a person down right from the very beginning. I fell asleep on the floor around 0200-0300 in a squad bay and woke up 2hrs. later to DI's screaming. It all went downhill from there. But, my son and I both graduated, so we got through it!!

In boot camp we had to talk to willy the worm,we would have to get down on our elbows and stay like that for awhile,it hurt because we had blue wool sweat shirts on under our shirts. Also when we lined up for chow outside the mess hall you couldn't step on the graits in the side walk.A couple guys did and they had to scrub them with a tooth brush.
